About
MY STORY
Salty Woodcraft is all about zero BS & 100% about happy times shared with family and friends.
It was during a particularly long, lazy family lunch when I took a good look at our cutting board - it looked exactly like what it was - soulless, mass produced with zero character.
In my very early days I was an old school Carpenter and Joiner by trade and I knew that a good cutting board or serving platter could be full of character, while also being robust and durable.
Soon, I started creating cutting boards and serving platters in my workshop. I experimented with the sizing, shaping, wood types and final finishing. I used Australian woods such as Huon Pine, Tasmanian Blackwood & Oak and Red Ironbark to name a few - but occassionally a special piece of American Walnut would make its way into my hands.
I gave away many of these early boards to family and friends, and listened eagerly to their feedback. It was clear from the start that people loved to know the provenance of the wood that was used in these pieces and they also liked talking to the guy that made them.
We began selling out products at two local farmers markets, which is great fun and a continous learning experience as I can talk to our customers about the look, shape and *feel* of everything I make.
Importantly, our cutting boards and serving platters are hand finished with a high quality hard wax oil made from a blend of sustainable raw materials inlcuidng sunflower oil, jojoba oil and beeswax that when cured is completely toxin-free and food-safe.
It is my intent that you will enjoy your Salty Woodcraft piece for many years and I encourage you to use it with gusto for plenty of good times with your nearest and dearest, as I do mine.
Sincerely,
David 'Salty Senior' Wilson
